Local universities and employers kickstart Totton College 2019 careers conference

Local and national organisations including Southampton, Winchester and Bournemouth Universities, Princes Trust, Asda and Solent NHS Trust have taken part in the Totton College 2019 careers conference this month.

Designed to help students from Totton College and local feeder school Testwood school prepare for their next steps into further education or employment, organisations exhibited careers advice and delivered talks from guest speakers covering job search success, getting into university, apprenticeships, gap years, starting a business and student finance.

Associate Professor at Solent University, Steve Hogg, said:

“It is so important for young people to access in depth careers advice during school and college to plan their next step in as much advance as possible.  We fully support Totton College’s proactive approach in this area, and look forward to welcoming many more local students to Solent University in the forthcoming academic year.”

Asda Community Champion at Asda, Julie Motherwell, said:

“We are really impressed by the determination to succeed at Totton College displayed by students and staff alike.  This will no doubt help local students to thrive in their chosen careers.”

Hannah Avoth, Totton College Vice Principal, said:

“At Totton College, we are passionate about ensuring that students can choose from a wide range of learning opportunities to give them the skills they need to get on the path to their chosen career.

“We work closely with local organisations and employers to offer the best volunteer, work experience, apprenticeship, and employment and higher education opportunities for local students. We are very grateful for the ongoing support and presence at our careers conference events each year and look forward to even bigger conferences over the coming years.”
