Skills for Life students at Totton College have celebrated the festive season in style, with a Christmas Party at The Edge in Southampton. The buffet meal and disco provided a well-deserved celebration of the hard work from both students and staff.

After receiving feedback from students, staff in the Skills for Life department decided to give them their very own clubbing experience using the facilities at The Edge in Southampton. The Edge host regular events for those with a range of additional needs and provided a spectacular buffet and disco for more than 50 students. As part of their experience, students were also treated to breakfast while they got ready for the party, with staff and students using Totton College’s Opus Salon preparing their hair and nails.

Camilla Young, Skills for Life teacher and event organiser, said: “After talking with staff about how we could celebrate Christmas this year, it was suggested that we take them clubbing as the majority expressed that they would love to go. Due to some of the personal challenges some individuals have, they would not otherwise experience this type of activity. We saw it as a good opportunity to do something a little different to celebrate the festive season. It has given learners the chance to dance in a real club with lights and a DJ.”
Carol Palmer, Faculty Manager for Skills for Life, added: “It’s through the dedication and hard work from Camilla and the team that has enabled this event to go ahead. We want our students to experience a wide range of enrichment activities to support them with their learning and personal development. Events like this are crucial to the wellbeing of our students and we look forward to continuing this work in the New Year.”
