Motor vehicle staff at Totton College proudly delivered cycle maintenance certificates to service users at The Society of St James homelessness charity in Southampton on Thursday 9 February.
The City and Guild Level 1 qualification is a significant achievement for the three learners who showed perseverance and commitment as they trained in an outdoor workshop despite cold winter weather.
The newly qualified men are volunteers at Re-Cycle Bikes, a bike recycling workshop set up to offer learning and training opportunities for the service users of the Society of St James to help grow and sustain the use of bicycles as transport. Trained volunteers recycle broken bikes into usable, safe, environmentally conscious transport.
Martin Balk, Motor Vehicle teacher at Totton College commented:
“This is a fantastic initiative and the guys have done really well to stick with it and gain these qualifications. They have been a pleasure to work with and it is a real achievement and confidence boost which will help them to progress.”
